Radiant hair and skin (Beauty from within series)

"Beauty comes from within" We hear that a lot. When it comes to your skin and hair, it's true. Being hydrated or lacking in Vitamins shows on your skin and hair. I've recently been loosing hair and my scalp has been dry. Not to mention my dull winter skin. I know the only way to fix it properly, is from within. I've been trying some superfoods and vitamins from Neals Yard Remedies the last few months to see if I could improve it.

Mainly What we put in us is important and it shows on the outside. The problem today is that our soil isn’t rich in minerals as it was even 50 years ago. This is due to intensive agriculture using fertilisers and pesticides - over time damaging the living soil, rendering it and our food's nutrient poor. Our body needs the right resources to work at its best and unfortunately, with the health of the soil as it is, these can be hard to supply. This is where I’m going to talk about the supplements and things I eat to stay healthy on both the inside and outside. This can't be used as a substitute for a varied diet, but only as a compliment. All the products are vegan and organic.

I recently wrote about beauty from within and surviving winter which you can read here.

But for now, let's focus on our hair and skin. This is what I've been doing to maintain healthy hair and skin.

Many people take zinc tablets for their skin and nails. But Neal's Yard Remedies has put together such an amazing super capsule called the Beauty Boost, which does so much more.
  • It contains frankincense and vitamin C to support normal collagen formation.
  • Biotin and zinc to help maintain healthy skin.
  • Selenium and zinc to help maintain healthy hair and nails.
  • Copper that contributes to normal skin pigmentation.
It's such a great supplement for your hair and skin. My hair and scalp have definitely started to look more healthy since I've taken these. My hair is more glossy and doesn't fall out as much as it used too. My skin looks more radiant and been breaking out less than normal. Even my nails feel stronger.

This oil is a blend of organic linseed, avocado, evening primrose and pumpkin seed oils. It helps to support healthy skin. It helps to reduce skin inflammation and hydrates dry skin. It also provides with a source of alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid that contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.

When I spoke to Michael in Eteretique he suggested the omega oil for my dry scalp. Omega 3 strengthens the hair root and prevents hair loss. It also helps with poor blood circulation in the scalp and reduces the skin dryness which would lead to dandruff.

My scalp just kept getting worse and it really started to affect my confidence. But few weeks after taking the oil 1-2 tsp a day (mixed with orange juice as it's not very nice by itself), I noticed that it started to get better. (It probably didn't hurt eating the Frankincense beauty boost as well.) Right now it's the healthiest it's been in years and I'm so pleased.

This is a bunch of superfoods blended into a powder to add to your smoothie or cereal in the morning. It helps you to boost your skin's natural radiance with antioxidants like açai, blueberry, cherry and goji berry. It's rich in vitamin C to help support the formation of collagen and normal skin function.

Let's take a closer look at some of the ingredients to see what benefits they have, with a focus on hair and skin.

Blueberry
Full of vitamin C and K and antioxidants. Vitamin C is essential for collagen formation whilst antioxidants protect the collagen. Blueberry is a perfect anti-ageing ingredient, as well as many other things like your heart and brain.

Goji berry
One of the richest antioxidant fruits in the world. Contains vitamin C, B, E and A, 19 amino acids and a multitude of health-giving carbohydrates and protein. Goji berries are used in Chinese medicine to expand life expectancy. Goji is the only known food which stimulates us to produce more HGH (Human Growth Hormone - known as the youth hormone) which ageing is linked to when declining of it.

Chia seeds
It's full of omega 3, as we looked at already, is great for healthy skin. It also absorbs high levels of water which offers prolonged hydration to the body.

As a conclusion, these superfoods and supplements have made my hair feeling healthy and strong again. The dry and itchy scalp is almost completely gone. My skin looks more healthy and that's impressive considering it's gloomy January and my skin haven't seen the sun for months. I'm super impressed and I feel like I'm going to be hooked for life on these now.

Do you take any supplements for your hair and skin?
