Organic socks of Sweden

Recently a lot of my socks started to fall apart and it was time to purchase some new pairs. 

I decided to go for a more sustainable choice and bought organic cotton socks from Organic socks of Sweden. I heard about them on Instagram. 

Mina strumpor har nyligen börjat gå sönder och det var dags att köpa nya.

Jag bestämde mig för att gå för ett mer hållbart val och köpte strumpor med ekologiskt bomull från Organic socks of Sweden. Jag hittade dem på Instagram. 

I first bought a pair in Replik, a sustainable slow fashion boutique in Stockholm. I loved them so much I went online and ordered another 3 pairs. This time I ordered low cut ones. 

They're very soft and comfortable. It's a good quality and hopes that they will last a long time. 

Först köpte jag ett par i Replik, en hållbar slow fashion butik i Stockholm. Jag gillade dem så mycket att jag beställde tre par till på nätet. Denna gången köpte jag låga strumpor. 

De är väldigt mjuka och sköna. Det är god kvalitet och hoppas att de håller länge. 

The Organic socks of Sweden are manufactured in India according to global organic textile standard (GOTS). This means no use of toxic chemicals, no child labour and no harm to the environment. 

The main yarn comes from organic cotton naturally grown from non-genetically modified plants without the use of dangerous chemicals. All this to protect the environment and the health of the workers. 

The organic socks of Sweden är tillverkade i Indien enligt global organic texile standard (GOTS). Detta betyder att man inte använder giftiga kemikalier, barnarbetare eller något som skadar miljön. Huvudgarnet kommer från ekologiskt bomull naturligt odlad från icke genmodifierade plantage som inte använder farliga kemikalier. Allt detta för att skydda miljön och arbetarnas hälsa. 

They also donate 1% of their annual profit for the girl's education and economic empowerment of poor families in the rural areas of Pakistan, where the founder origins from. 

De donerar även 1% av deras årliga vinst för flickors utbildning och ekonomiskt bemyndigande för fattiga familjer på landsbygden i Pakistan, som grundaren kommer ifrån. 

I can definitely see myself buying more of Organic socks of Sweden.

Organic periods

I'm happy that more and more people are talking about periods and what they use. It's nothing to be ashamed of as half the population will have it during a big part of their lives. 

Jag är glad att fler och fler pratar öppet om mens och vad de använder. Det är inget att skämmas över eftersom halva befolkningen har det under en stor del av sitt liv. 

Have you ever thought of changing to organic tampons or sanitary towels? Or even the moon cup? Probably not. Even if you do it's not easy to find. I'm very happy that here in Stockholm they sell Natracare towels and tampons in my local supermarket. There's also plenty of other places to find different organic brands. 

Har du någonsin tänkt på att byta till ekologiska tamponger eller bindor? Eller en mooncup? Antagligen inte. Även om du har det så kan det vara svårt att hitta. Jag är så glad att här i Stockholm säljer de Natracare bindor och tamponger i min lokala Ica. Det finns även fler ställen som säljer olika ekologiska märken. 

Here are few reasons why you should switch to organic once a month too. 

Här är några anledningar till varför du borde byta till ekologiskt en gång i månaden. 

1. Better for your health

The majority of tampons and sanitary towels are made from synthetic fibres like rayon and viscose, that are treated with harsh chemicals. Wearing these for hours leaves your skin dry, sore and with possible reproductive issues. 

Organic cotton sanitary towels and tampons haven't been treated in viscose, rayon, pesticides chlorine, perfume or chemical fertilisers. Instead, they're naturally hypoallergenic and has the same pH as your body. Since using organic cotton sanitary towels I find I don't get itchy and irritated anymore but my skin can freely breathe. 

Majoriteten av tamponger och bindor är gjorda på syntetiska fibrer som rayon och viskos, som behandlas i starka kemikalier. Att bära dessa i flera timmar lämnar huden torr, öm och med eventuella reproduktiva problem. 

Bindor och tamponger från ekologiskt bomull har inte behandlats i viskos, rayon, bekämpningsmedel, klor, parfym eller konstgödsel. Istället är de naturligt allergivänliga och har samma pH som din kropp. Sedan jag använt ekologiska bindor så har jag upptäckt att huden blir inte lika irriterad längre, men kan istället andas fritt. 

2. Better for the environment 

As a natural product, cotton is biodegradable and compostable. Which means whether you throw it in the bin or on the compost, it will break down and support a natural ecosystem. Plastic, viscose and rayon don't do that. 

Som en naturlig produkt, är bomull biologiskt nedbrytbar och komposterbar. Vilket innebär om du kastar det i soporna eller på komposten, kommer det att bryta ner och stödja ett naturligt ekosystem. Plast, viskos och rayon gör inte det. 

3. Better for the workers

Talking about pure cotton, we should take the step further and make sure it's organic cotton. Most cotton gets contaminated with pesticides. It's harmful to us and for the animals, but mostly for the workers who have to breathe in all the toxins all day long. They are barely equipped with safety equipment or protection and because of this suffer many from health issues. 

Growing organic cotton enables them to earn more and avoids all the toxins. 

På tal om ren bomull, bör vi ta steget vidare och se till att det är ekologisk bomull. Större delen av all bomull blir förorenat med bekämpningsmedel. Det är skadligt för oss och djur, men främst för de arbetare som måste andas in alla gifter hela dagen lång. De är knappt utrustade med säkerhetsutrustning eller skydd och på grund av detta lider många av hälsoproblem. 

Att odla ekologisk bomull ger dem möjlighet att tjäna mer och de undviker alla gifter.
