Are you like most people and buy your beauty products without too much thought of what's inside. Maybe you've read about the chemicals that's in most products these days. You want to change and use more organic products. But you're not sure what to do next. Do not fret. I know it's a scary world out there and it's not easy to venture out in the unknown. I've put together a guide to to hopefully make it a little easier.

1. Don't change everything over one night

Be realistic. First of all we don't want more waste. Changing all your beauty  products in one go will just be expensive. Instead, for each product you finish swap it with a green alternative. Little by little you'll soon have a majority of green/organic beauty products.

2. Keep a list of ingredients to avoid

In the beginning it's hard to know what to avoid in a product. I keep a card that I picked up from Well People that lists ingredients to avoid. Another easy rule to follow is the lesser ingredients the better.

3. Use think dirty app

This is a great app for your phone. It helps you finding clean, natural and good for you products. You scan the product and it tells you how clean or dirty the product is from scale 0-10. You should avoid any product with a high number. It lists the ingredients and highlights them red if they're bad. It also gives you alternative products.

4. Tell your friends and family

Let the people around you know that you're choosing a different lifestyle. It can be frustrating when trying to change all your old habits and only buy organic. Then it's your birthday or Christmas and you're stuck with toxic products all over again.

5.Do your research

When you'll seek you'll find. It can be hard to even know where to look. Some areas are easy to forget when changing to an organic lifestyle. Maybe it's time to look for a new hairdresser that uses less chemicals and more gentle products. What about your waxing or your nails. There is places that uses organic and natural products and polish but they're a lot harder to find.

6. Don't be afraid to bring your own products

If you can't find anywhere near where you live. Don't be afraid to bring in your own products when getting your hair or nails done. It might be worth checking with them first. But most of the time they're fine with it.

7. Embrace online shopping

Online is where you'll find most of your products. Especially if you live in a smaller town. There's so many great products out there, but again do your research. Read reviews by green beauty bloggers. Sometimes it can take time to find the products that works for you.

8. Many products are easy to do yourself

Follow the hype with coconut oil and you'll save yourself a fortune on beauty products and hair treatments. Making your own bath salts, soaps and body scrubs are easy and so much fun. You'll know exactly what's in it and you can make a big batch and give as presents to all your friends.

9. Justify the cost

Cleaner beauty products can be a bit pricey compared to what you're used to paying. That's because they contain far more superior ingredients than the cheap synthetics that many products contain. Your health is worth it.

10. Let your skin get used to it

Another reason why it's good to start small is for your skin to get used to better products. See it like the detox effect. When you flush out all the toxins in your body, your skin and organ reacts. The same when your skin is used to lots of chemicals. You might experience break outs, dry, oily unbalanced skin, greasy hair, excessive perspiration (using natural deodorants you finally letting your body breathe). Do not worry. Your body will recalibrate and begin to function how nature intended it to again. To ease symptoms slowly wean yourself off products you're chemically dependant upon.

Review | Suti - Fabulous foot balm

A perfect balm to look after your tired feet. My love for Suti continues. Suzannah, one of the ladies who started Suti, gave me their foot balm. The Suti Fabulous foot balm was actually her first ever product she made.

Being a hardworking hairdresser and a keen runner I could not wait to try this. My feet needs as much love as they can get. 

Suti is a British organic skincare collection based on:

On the Suti Fabulous foot balm packaging I'm reading

This is a great foot balm and my feet are loving it. My feet and legs definitely feeling refreshed after using the balm. 

The fabulous foot balm has some ingredients.

- Rosemary, has pain relieving properties so perfect for my tired and sore feet. Make them new 

- Peppermint, is uplifting and making my feet feel like new again. 

- Olive oil, rehydrates the skin leaving it feeling soft. 

Some other great ingredients are pumpkin seed, avocado, eucalyptus, lemon and carrot. They all help to cool, refresh and stimulate my feet.

First time I tried the Fabulous foot balm was after I had done a 10k run in the morning. It felt great to massage this balm in to my feet and calfs. It was exactly what I needed. The feeling after was amazing. It was like having new feet again. They feel clean, fresh and relaxed. 

It is now part of my evening routine. I don't want to spoil the feeling after by running around. I just want to continue to relax. After washing my feet. I apply the foot balm and spending 5-10 minutes to massage my tired feet and legs. It is so refreshing. I did not realise how exhausted my feet are after a long day. But working the balm in to my feet massaging them I can feel the knots and the tension. It's such a relief when I notice them loosen up.  For each day I'm using the balm it's getting better. I feel reenergised and I think the peppermint helps to freshen your feet and stops any odour. 

I only use a small amount and as it's melting I work it over my feet up the legs towards my knees. As it melts I can feel it going in to the skin soothing my sore muscles and relaxes them. The balm leaves my skin smooth, not as rough feet but like nice soft skin. I feel relaxed and ready for bed, but with new energy in my legs ready for the next day. A perfect combination. 

I stand on my feet most of the day and I as most of us neglect our feet so much. I think we take our feet and legs for granted. This balm helps me to bring the importance of them back. To get rooted again.

I also think it is a perfect product for summer. Our feet are out on display so let's make them look and feel their best. My feet feels much smoother and not as dry so happy to show them off in my sandals. 

The Fabulous foot balm is £19 and it will last a long time, as you don't need a lot.

Review| Neal's Yard Remedies - Rose and Mallow moisturiser

I was advices to try the Rose & Mallow moisturiser when I went in to the Neal's Yard shop at Borough Market. 

On the label Neal's Yard says "Lightly moisturises and protects all skin types. Cooling and restorative rose balances the complexion while mallow and almond soften and smooth for radiant skin."

I found this cream perfect for my normal skin. I use it for my face and it softens my skin and feels smooth and hydrated. The cream is light and absorbs in to the skin easily. 

The moisturiser has a lovely, gentle smell from rose and citrus. I like that it doesn't have a strong smell of rose, as it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. 

I'm a big fan of Neal's Yard Remedies products as they are free from so many nasty ingredients like

 - parabens

 - EDTA

 - mineral oils

 - synthetic fragrances or colours

 - silicones 

 - GMO

As they're free from all of those things it helps your skin to breathe better and doesn't harm your skin or blood stream. 

Neal's Yard Remedies are easy to recognise with their blue glass jars/bottles and their purple labels. The Rose & Mallow moisturiser cost £22 for a 50g jar.

Review | c/o Gerd B2 Hair SERUM

I bought the c/o Gerd serum a while back and I thought it's time to do a review. I bought it back in Sweden and there's few reasons why I bought it.

1. It's organic
2. It's made in Lapland and I lived there before and I love everything about it.
3. It's made from blueberries and blueberries are amazing.

If you, like me, never heard of c/o Gerd it's because it's a small Swedish brand. Owned by two siblings, named after their mum. It's based in northern Sweden using raw ingredients from Swedish Lapland.

At first glance the product look like a medicine bottle with it's dark tinted bottle and bright blue label. Being in a health food store didn't help. But reading on the bottle and the information about the company next to the products made me intrigued. (See all the reasons why I I bought it.) After sampling all their products I decided to buy the Serum.

The serum smells more of citrus than blueberries, but it still smells great.

The serum is a light creamy liquid and easy to apply. Most of the time I apply it on wet hair after I washed my hair, but sometimes I apply it on dry hair to give it a shine, especially for my dry ends.

The serum makes my hair feeling soft and gives it a nice shine. It absorbs in to the hair and doesn't feel greasy or sticky after. I think it's almost more like a leave in conditioner.

I'm pleased with this product and will definitely look in to other products in their range.

Review | Sukin hydrating body lotion & Aloe Vera gel

I recently went to buy my first Sukin product, a body lotion. When I got home I had an email asking me to try their aloe vera gel to review. I was only a little freaked out. Like had they just been stalking me in Wholefoods? Probably not. To be honest I was more happy than freaked out. Anyway I've decided to review both of the products here.

Sukin - hydrating body lotion

Reason why I chose Sukin was because it's free from so many nasties like -

• parabens, 
• SLS, 
• animal derivatives, 
• synthetic fragrances, 
• artificial colours I can go on and on

I have a normal skin type with tendencies towards dry and this lotion feels nice and refreshing on my skin. It's for all skin types. It's light and sinks into the skin quickly. The lotion smells a bit citrusy and fresh, perfect for summer I think. This makes sense as some of the ingredients are citrus fruits like lime and grapefruit it also contains avocado, nettle and rose hip.

I'm a bit funny with trying new body lotions because I had few irritated skin accidents in the past. But Sukin body lotion is a new favourite of mine.

I like the bottle with the pump that squirt out just the right amount to apply to my skin. It's a lovely dark tinted bottle with a a label that gives an organic look to the product.

Sukin - Aloe Vera gel

Aloe Vera gel is great to use for after the sun, to cool and soothe the skin. unfortunately, I haven't had much chance to try it for that purpose as living in the UK. But I can tell it's going to be great for it so I'm bringing it to my holidays this summer.

The Aloe Vera gel is good to use for dry and irritated skin and after you've shaved as it soothes your skin.

I must say that it does soothe the skin especially after shaving my legs it was such a nice feeling to put the gel on. The gel is light and sinks into the skin easily and my legs feel great.

I wished I had the Aloe Vera gel earlier as great to use for irritated skin. I'm even thinking all those time I've burned my skin whilst cooking this would work miracles.

Again it's a nice bottle with a pump that makes it easy to use, but a smaller version than the lotion.

So far I haven't got anything negative to say about Sukin.

Review | Suti - Cleansing balm

I received this cleansing balm from Suti as a thank you for my last review. I was really excited as it's been on my wish list for a while and I've heard wonderful things about it.

Again Suti continues to impress me with their products and maybe it's because they using reiki and meditation in the process of making their products, that they stand out from the crowd. It has a calming effect to both my skin and body.

I only need to apply the smallest amount on my skin, which makes it last a long time. The cleanser comes with a cloth which I soak and put on my face to then massage my face and then rinse off.

It cleanses and protects the skin and getting rid of impurities and removes dead skin cells. It leaves the skin feeling refreshed and pampered.

When applying the balm it melts onto my skin and absorbs easily, which leaves my skin feeling clean and so soft. It feels more moisturised than greasy than some cleansers can do. 

It has a beautiful smell with the blend of mandarin, lime and lavender. It has a very calming effect and the avocado makes the skin feel amazing. Even after rinsing, my skin is so soft which isn't normally the case when I use cleansers. 

The Suti's cleanser is such a beautiful product, not just the balm and it's an amazing smell, but even the glass jar is beautiful. 

The Suti cleanser has definitely made it onto my regular evening skincare routine. What cleanser do you use? 

Review | Maria Åkerberg Foundation, eyeliner and hand cream

I recently went home to Sweden and did some shopping. I was looking forward to trying Maria Åkerberg make-up and I was not disappointed.

Maria Åkerberg is a small Swedish brand using organic Swedish produced products trying to educate their consumers into building a more sustainable future together.
This is what I got.

MÅ FOUNDATION COLD 
Anyone else hate buying foundation? Every time I need a new foundation I can never get it right. Even with help from a shop assistant. Either I'm too orange or it's too pale and I look like a ghost.
So with Maria Åkerberg and the fact she only has 3 different shades of foundation I thought there's no way. But the cold is perfect for my skin colour. Maybe it's just my Swedish complexion that all these brands can't get right, but Maria Åkerberg got it on point. I had to go back and get a second bottle just in case I run out before I go back to Sweden.

The foundation blends really nice on to the skin and looks really natural. It doesn't feel too heavy, you know some foundations feels like you've got a mask on.

MÅ EYELINER CLACK 
This is the best eyeliner I've ever used much better than Mac and all those brands everyone raving about. It is so smooth to apply and sits really well for a long time. My eyeliner always smudges and drops and make me look like I got punched. So to finally find an eyeliner that doesn't do that makes me so happy.

MÅ HAND CREAM BEAUTIFUL 
My hands was getting really dry so I ended up buying this hand cream. It solved my problem and is actually a decent hand cream. It smells nice with orange and cardamom.

Review | Jåsön sun sport

We are slowly moving into summer, sunshine and it is time to find a sunscreen. It's not only for when you go on sun holiday but also needed in England. It's important to protect your skin from dangerous UV lights. When you spend time in the sun it increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin ageing. So protecting yourself is crucial.

I use Jåsön sun sport SPF 45 as I use it when I'm out running and need a stronger and water resistant lotion as I want it to protect me even when I sweat and also perfect for beach holiday when jumping in the sea as well. Hopefully, there'll be a holiday sometime this year.

Jåsön is like the dinosaur of natural hair and skin care. They've been around for a long time. Long before it got popular to be natural and organic and they are a well-established brand, so compared to the dinosaurs I don't think Jåsön is going anywhere.

Jåsön sunscreen is free from parabens, SLS, petrolatum, artificial colours and phthalates. So not only protecting your skin on the outside but is not dangerous for your inside either. As the skin is our biggest organ and absorbs anything you put on it, it's so important to stay away from products full of toxins.

The first things I noticed about the sun lotion was the bright orange packaging and the smell. It smells so nice. I think it smells a bit of coconut and holiday. I have tried many different types of sunscreens in my days and no other smells as good as this one. It feels nice on the skin as well.

I've used it for many of my runs lately and hopefully will bring it on holiday soon.

Review | Green People Toothpaste and Radius Floss sachets

I'm trying to be good and look after my teeth, but of course still using natural and organic products. Is this possible you ask? Yes, it is.

I put a picture of my toothpaste on Instagram and Twitter and had a few people asking about it so I thought I'll write a review.

Green People Toothpaste - minty cool

Why do I choose organic toothpaste?

It's free from nasties like SLS (sodium Lauryl Sulphate), Fluoride, artificial flavours, colouring, sweeteners and preservatives. It's cruelty-free, vegan and fair trade. So the question is why shouldn't I choose organic toothpaste?

If you're not used to natural toothpaste it might feel strange as it doesn't foam as much as the average toothpaste, but don't worry it still cleanse your teeth just as well.

I find a natural toothpaste much more gentle in my mouth. My teeth feel and look clean and leaves a comfortable freshness of mint as an aftertaste.

Radius Floss Sachets - mint

I love this floss. Firstly there's no plastic anywhere as both the packaging and the floss is biodegradable. How great is that?

The floss is great. My teeth are quite close together so I can find flossing a bit difficult sometimes but it easily moves between my teeth and give it that extra clean so I won't get told off by my dentist.

Review | Suti Honour Coconut & Roses Face Cream

I got the Suti Honour Face Cream as a Christmas present by one of my salon clients. I was really excited to try this and it was amazing. One of the best face creams I have ever tried.

Suti uses Meditation, Reiki and Crystals when making their products believing beauty and wellbeing go hand in hand. They also use organic ingredients approved by the soil association. Honour contain 80% organic ingredients.

Suti explains on their website
"When applying this beautiful cream it becomes a time for reflection, a time to be at one with yourself, a time to create a Sacred Space to Honour – Above, Below and Within."

I definitely find this Honour face-cream special and would agree the cream being one with my skin. It's an enjoyment to apply it.

The cream is really light on my skin and don't need very much so it lasts a long time. The smell is very pleasing. The mix of coconut, rose and date is perfect. I find the smell of rose can be overwhelming sometimes, but the coconut and date balance it out well.

My skin feels great after using this cream for a while now. It's soft and still able to breathe. I find that it just works perfectly with my skin. I'm so happy I've found Suti.

Honour face-cream is beautifully packaged in a glass bottle with a pump that makes it easy to get the just right (Lagom as we say in Sweden) amount of cream in my hand.

Price is £58 is not cheap but definitely worth you splashing out that bit more. I'm surprised for how easy I'm talking myself into its worth the money from never spending more than £20 on a face cream before. But it's seriously worth it if you have the money. Review | Mop C-System firm finish spray

Today I'm doing a review on one of my favourite products that I use all the time. It's MOP (Modern Organic Product) C-system firm finish spray.

Looking for an eco-friendly hairspray? The c-system spray is an aerosol spray and has a zero impact propellant so is eco-friendly. It also has a UV shield for colour protection which is great when I'm out in the sun a lot. C-System Firm Finish Hair Spray is paraben free and gluten free. Unfortunately, it's not sulphate free.

The spray has a great hold and lasts really well, yet I find it is not going horribly sticky like some other hairsprays. My hair is always in place all day/evening when I'm using it. And of course I have it with me whenever I do a wedding hair or fashion shoot.

I love the fact it doesn't smell like a normal hairspray. It smells very citrus. I think it almost smells like Gin and tonic. I have clients who always ask to have this hairspray just because they love the smell.

Review | John Masters Organic Conditioner

Today I'm reviewing one of my old time favourites. Lavender and avocado intensive conditioner from John Masters Organic.

You can use this as a normal conditioner, but I also like it as a deeper treatment. I just leave it on for few minutes and let it work its magic.

The treatment leaves my hair feeling soft, silky and healthy. It makes my hair easy to comb through and don't forget, it smells amazing.

I love this conditioner because it's not only organic, but free from parabens, sulphates and other nasties and it's vegan.

Packaging is not very exciting, but it has a kind of classic feel to it.
With it being £22 it is a bit on the pricey side. But if you use it as a treatment once a week it will last for ages.

Review | O'right Recoffee Shampoo and Conditioner

Rarely have I been this excited about new products. I first heard about O'right at salon international last year and managed to convince my boss to bring them into the salon. They are now one of our best selling product. Today I will be reviewing its RECOFFEE Moisturising Shampoo and RECOFFEE Conditioner.

Who's O'right?
O'right is an organic brand from Taiwan, but they've made it a lifestyle.
O'right puts green concepts into all of their products, from materials and ingredients to designs and operations. O'right devotes themselves to Eco-line, reduces carbon emissions and using certified organic ingredients, soy ink printing and recycled paper and biodegradable bottles to ensure a sustainable good life for our future generations. They also want to give something back so in their bottles is a seed to plant a tree.

What is Recoffee?
Recoffee is one of O'rights latest products in its hair care range. Recoffee is an oil made out of recycled coffee grounds, which is an excellent source of antioxidants.

On the bottle, its states that "the shampoo gently cleanses the hair and locks in moisture to create  shiny hair. " and "The conditioner is mixed with the oil and softening ingredients from plants, to deeply repair and nourish the hair. It creates shiny hair with volume."

Verdict
After been using Recoffee for few weeks now, my hair is really soft and both hair and scalp feels healthy. My scalp doesn't agree to many shampoos so that's amazing. I do find that my hair feels better and softer a day or two after I've washed it than on the same day. But only helps to not wash it as often so fine by me. I will definitely continue using it. I love the packaging and the fact that they have seeds in their bottles to plant is such a great idea. I bought the 400ml bottles and I think it's a good value because most shampoos are normally much smaller so you get a good amount of product for your money. You don't need to use much of the shampoo, but I find myself adding more conditioner sometimes. I love the smell. The coffee smell might not be for everyone, but O'right has a wide range of Shampoos and conditioners to choose between. Being one of the greenest shampoos in the world with no carbon footprint is a huge deal for me so worth the extra few £. They don't test on animals and are free from parabens and sulphates, so all plus there.

REVIEW | H2o Water Colour

Working in an organic hair salon (Natural Colour Works) using natural ingredient colours, I thought I will tell you more about the products that I use every day. My first product I want to look at is the H2o Water Colour.

What is H2o Water Colour?
H2o Water Colour is a 95% water-based natural hair colour with no peroxide, ammonia or resorcinol in the mix making it completely odourless. It is the closest to a vegetable dye you can get and still get the result as of a hair dye. How does it work?
It's easy to use. Mixing the powder with warm water, then shake the bottle and it is ready to use. There's no root glow or line between old and new colour as the H2o Water Colour doesn't give a defined regrowth line when growing out. As there's no peroxide in H2o Water Colour you can only use it to darken or match the same colour this is perfect for grey hair. (For lightening hair we use soya colour and seaweed lightener but I'll talk about them another time. )
